Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MCBT) is more like a class than it is like group therapy. Skills are taught in 8 weekly session to help people who have suffered from depression in the past to prevent depression from returning. These same skills are also beneficial to those who struggle with anxiety, chronic pain or a chronic illness.
You will learn and practice new ways of being aware of bodily sensations, thoughts and feelings - as they are happening. Mindful acceptance allows you to break free from automatic habits and routines that may lead to a return of depression or anxiety. Learning to view thoughts as events in the mind, separate from the emotions the thoughts trigger, can enable you to choose more skillful responses. The thoughts do not need to be disputed, fixed or changed but are held in an awareness large enough to hold aspects of the self deemed both broken and whole.
